Heliotrope’s name is derived from its habit of turning to face the sun, a characteristic which all “heliotropic” plants exhibit. The colors of the heliotrope blooms range from dark and light shades of purple to white. Its clustered five-lobe flowers resemble those of the forget-me-not. Heliotrope is prized for its dense clusters of small, star-shaped flowers, typically 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) across, in shades of deep purple, violet, blue, or white, often with a yellow or white eye.
