In 1962, the Nancy Hanks Lincoln grave and Lincoln Cabin sites were transferred to the National Park Service to become the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. A Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp was located here from 1933 to 1934. Abraham Lincoln grew up on the very land that is now Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City. Just up the road (Boone Street, Gentryville) is the historic home of young Abraham Lincoln employer, Colonel William Jones. This restored 1834 Federal-design home offers a unique look at the early development of Indiana. Lincoln State Park was established in 1932 to provide recreation, and to protect and preserve the Thomas Lincoln family homestead and the grave of Abraham’s mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln. In 2025, Lincoln State Park will conduct extensive repairs to the Lake Lincoln dam at Lincoln State Park. This project is a cooperative effort among multiple divisions of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and illustrates the variety of work managed through the DNR.
